List of stumbling blocks in Trenčiansky kraj

The list of stumbling blocks in Trenčiansky kraj contains the stumbling blocks in the Trenčiansky kraj region , Slovakia , which commemorate the fate of the people of this region who were murdered, deported, displaced or driven to suicide during the Nazi era . The stumbling blocks were designed by Gunter Demnig and in most cases they are installed by him personally.

The stumbling blocks are called “stolpersteine” in Slovak, alternatively also pripomienkové Kamen or pamätné Kamen (both for “memorial stones”).

Izák Godel Hellmann (* 1873 Leczyc, Poľsko; † 1942) was the last and the older cantor of the Jewish community in Prievidza, where he had lived since the end of the 19th century. As such, he was responsible for the proper conduct of ritual services, was a prayer leader at rituals, ritual butcher, and supervised the synagogue, in the immediate vicinity of which he lived with his family. In 1942 he and his wife Matilda Hellmannová were deported to a concentration camp in Poland and never returned.

Matilda Hellmannová b. Šimková (* 1880 Rajčany; † 1942) was the wife of Izák Godel Hellmann. She was deported with him to a concentration camp in Poland in 1942 and never returned.

Félix Rosenthal (* 1870 Prievidza ; † 1944/45 Nemecká ); Rosenthal's family was among the oldest and most respected Jewish families in Prievidza. Felix Rosenthal, dealer in mixed goods and iron goods, was a member of the municipal council and on the supervisory board of Prvá prievidzská banka (First Prievidza Bank). With his wife Berta Rosenthalová, he supported public and charitable collections and foundations. He was also the last chairman of the Chevrah kadiša association. After the city was occupied by the Wehrmacht in 1944, he had to go into hiding and was murdered in the lime kiln in Nemecká around 1944/1945.

Berta Rosenthalová b. Steinerová (* 1880 Turčiansky Svätý Martin ; † 1944/45 Nemecká ), wife of Felix Rosenthal, also participated in the support of various foundations. She and her husband hid from the Germans from 1944 onwards, but were murdered with him in a lime kiln in Nemecká around 1944/1945.

Jozef Werner (* 1889 Hričovské Podhradie ; † 1942 Auschwitz) was a wholesaler. He came to Prievidza after 1918 and ran a steam sawmill and trade in building materials. He was one of the most successful entrepreneurs there. Together with his wife Margita Wernerová, he supported charitable foundations and causes. After the anti-Jewish laws ( Jewish Code of September 1941) were passed, they were persecuted and expropriated. He, his wife, daughter Judita (* 1923) and daughter Erika (* 1929) were taken to the collection camp for Jews in Nováky and from there deported to Auschwitz on September 22, 1942, where they were murdered. Her son Pavol (* 1923) died in an air raid in Budapest in 1944.
