Stumbling blocks in Třeboň

The list of stumbling blocks in Jihočeský kraj contains the stumbling blocks ( Czech : Kameny zmizelých ) in the Czech region of Jihočeský kraj (South Bohemian region), which remind of the fate of the people who were murdered, deported, deported and deported during the occupation of the Czech Republic by the National Socialist German Reich or were driven to suicide. The stumbling blocks were laid by Gunter Demnig .

The Stolpersteine ​​in Třeboň were laid on June 6, 2010. This installation was the third stumbling block installation in the Czech Republic. The laying in Chlum u Třeboně took place on July 17, 2013 and the laying of the single stone in Budweis took place on September 14, 2014 and October 6, 2014.

The stumbling blocks are to Czech stumbling blocks called alternatively kameny zmizelých (stones of the disappeared).

Harry Kende was born on March 24, 1927 () in Budweis / České Budějovice. He worked for the Budweiser youth magazine Klepy . On April 18, 1942, he was deported from České Budějovice to the Theresienstadt ghetto on Transport Akb under number 222 . From there he was transferred to Auschwitz on September 28, 1944 with Transport EK under No. 586 . From Auschwitz he was deported to the Kauferin IV subcamp and finally transferred to the Flossenbürg concentration camp (his detention number was 42790), where he was murdered on March 8, 1945. The stumbling block that was laid for him is in front of his former school. There is also a memorial plaque in the school with which Harry Kende is remembered.

With Harry Kende, other family members were deported on April 18, 1942. With the number 224 his father Vitezslav Kende, who was murdered in Auschwitz in 1944. Vilém Kende (1883–1944), an uncle of Harry Kende, and his wife Valerie Kendeová (1888–1944) were murdered in Auschwitz in 1944. Their son Viktor, who was also deported on Transport Akb, survived. In March 1942, Harry Kende's uncle Josef, his wife and three sons Erich, Oto and Rudolf were deported to Theresienstadt in a small transport. Josef and his wife Helena were murdered in Auschwitz, son Erich was killed in Dachau. Son Oto Oto survived the liberation of Mauthausen, but died shortly afterwards. Rudolf returned to Budweis.

Karel Weisskopf was born on February 26, 1883. He married Irma Weisskopfová and the couple had three children. They earned their living with their own distillery, which also had a bar. They were evicted from their home, lost the distillery. On April 18, 1942, the couple from České Budějovice were deported to the Theresienstadt ghetto. On April 26, 1942, he and his wife were transferred to the Warsaw Ghetto on Transport An, where they were both murdered.

Irma Weisskopfová was born on October 20, 1889. She was married to Karel Weisskopf and the couple had three children. On April 18, 1942, you and your husband were deported from České Budějovice to the Theresienstadt ghetto on transport AK / B, nos. 820 and 821 . On April 26, 1942, both were transferred with Transport An, No. 967 and 968, to the Warsaw Ghetto , where they were both murdered.

Karel Brady-Metzl was born on May 28, 1898 as the son of Emilie and Ludwig Metzl in Třeboň . He had six siblings. Since his uncle and aunt, Adolf and Karoline Brady, remained childless, they adopted two children from Karoline's sister Emilie, Karel and Hedvika. In 1927 he married Markéta Dubská. The couple had a retail store and a gas station in Nové Město na Moravě , where they formed the only Jewish family. Karel and Markéta Brady-Metzl had two children - Jiří (born 1928) and Hana (born May 31, 1932). In 1939 Karel was denounced, arrested by the Gestapo and sent to prison in Jihlava for two months . In March 1941, Markéta was arrested and deported to the Ravensbrück concentration camp . On November 23, 1941, Karel was arrested again. The children were taken to the Theresienstadt ghetto in May 1942 . Karel was transferred to Auschwitz on June 11, 1942 , where he was murdered on July 14, 1942. His wife Markéta was murdered in Ravensbrück concentration camp on October 29, 1942 .

His daughter, Hana, who was only thirteen, was also gassed by SS men immediately after her arrival . In 2000, Hana's suitcase with her drawings was found, the author Karen Levine told the story of the family in her book Hana's suitcase , a film was made from it in 2009.

Felix Metzl was born on April 13, 1906 as the son of Emilie and Ludwig Metzl in Třeboň . He had five siblings and worked as a trader. On April 18, 1942, he was deported from České Budějovice to Theresienstadt on Transport Akb, no. 751 . From there he was deported to Auschwitz on October 1, 1944 with Transport Em, No. 253. Felix Metzl was murdered on March 3, 1945 in Dachau.

Viktor Metzl was born in Třeboň on January 13, 1903 . He was a lawyer and married Marie Vlasimska. The couple had two daughters - Alena (born 1932) and Nora Metzl (born 1934). Viktor Metzl was actually supposed to be deported on the first transport from Budweis in 1942. He was suffering from angina pectoris at the time and a doctor gave "terrible" results. Viktor was arrested on October 4, 1944 and first deported to Theresienstadt and then to Mauthausen concentration camp , where he was murdered on April 7, 1945. His wife was arrested in December 1944 and returned to live with their daughters after the war ended. After her parents' arrest, Alena lived with her uncle Arnošt Vlašimský and his friend Vlasta Matulová in Prague, while Nora lived with relatives in Chotěboř .
