Stumbling blocks for Josef and Petr Winternitz in Prague-Smíchov

The list of stumbling blocks in Prague-Smíchov includes the stumbling blocks that were laid in the Smíchov district of Prague . The district has been part of the Prague 4 district since 2002 . The stumbling blocks remind of the fate of the people who were murdered, deported, expelled or driven to suicide by the National Socialists in the Czech Republic. The stumbling blocks were laid by Gunter Demnig .

The Czech stumbling block project Stolpersteine.cz was launched in 2008 by the Česká unie židovské mládeže (Czech Union of Jewish Youth) and was under the patronage of the Prague Mayor. The stumbling blocks lie in front of the last self-chosen place of residence of the victim. The stumbling blocks are to Czech stumbling blocks called alternatively kameny zmizelých (stones of the disappeared).

Some of the tables can be sorted; the basic sorting is done alphabetically according to the family name.

Berta Katzová was born on March 29, 1876. Her last address before the deportation was Prague XVI, Pekařovo nábř. 11. On July 20, 1942, she was deported from Prague to the Theresienstadt concentration camp on Transport AAs . Her transport number was 64 out of 1,000. On October 22, 1942, she was deported to the Treblinka extermination camp on Transport Bx . Her transport number was now 1879. None of the 2,033 Jews on this transport survived the Shoah .

Alena Rohatynová was born on May 17, 1926. Her mother was Irma Rohatynová. Her last residence before the deportation was in Prague XVI., Na Václavce 15. On July 30, 1942, she and her mother were deported from Prague to the Theresienstadt concentration camp by Transport AAv . Her transport number was 422 out of 1,001. On August 20, 1942, mother and daughter were deported to Riga on Transport Bb, train Da 402 . Her transport number was now 222. None of the 1,001 Jews on this transport survived the Shoah .

Irma Rohatynová was born on February 1, 1886. She had a daughter, Alena (born 1926), and probably a son too. Her last residence before the deportation was in Prague XVI., Na Václavce 15. On July 30, 1942, she and her daughter were deported from Prague to the Theresienstadt concentration camp by Transport AAv . Her transport number was 421 out of 1,001. On August 20, 1942, mother and daughter were deported to Riga on Transport Bb, train Da 402 . Her transport number was now 221. None of the 1,001 Jews on this transport survived the Shoah .

Josef Winternitz was born on March 21, 1896. His parents were Isaias Winternitz (1857–1921) and Franziska geb. Pollak (1862-1933). He completed his law degree and married Josefa Jenny. The couple had two children: Suzana (born 1927) and Petr (born 1928). At the beginning of the 1930s, he and his wife had Adolf Loos build a villa in the classic modern style. It is located in Na Cihlárce. The last residence of the family before the deportation was in Prague XII., Mánesova 72. On July 13, 1943 Josef Winternitz and his 15-year-old son were deported from Prague to the Theresienstadt concentration camp on Transport Di. His transport number was 112 out of 839. On October 1, 1944, he was deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp with Transport Em . His transport number was now 930 out of 1,501. There he was murdered by the Nazi regime. His son was also deported to Auschwitz 22 days later and also murdered.

His sister Olga Epstein, her husband and daughter were also murdered by the Nazi regime.

The wife and daughter survived the Shoah . The daughter married, was then called Kochannyová and gave birth to at least four children. Josefa Jenny Winternitz died in 1979, Suzana Kochannyová in 1990.

Petr Winternitz was born in 1928. His parents were Josef and Josefa Jenny Winternitz. He had an older sister, Suzana (born 1927). On July 13, 1943, he and his father were deported from Prague to the Theresienstadt concentration camp on Transport Di. His transport number was 113 out of 839. On October 1, 1944, his father was deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp , where he was murdered by the Nazi regime. On October 23, 1944, Petr Winternitz was also deported to Auschwitz with Transport Et. His transport number was now 1164 out of 1,714. He was also murdered by the Nazi regime.

Mother and sister were able to survive the Shoah .

Laying data

The Stolpersteine ​​in Prague were laid by Gunter Demnig personally on the following days: October 8, 2008, November 7, 2009, June 12, 2010, July 13 to 15, 2011 and July 17, 2013 (as far as stated on the artist's website Events). Further relocations took place on October 28, 2012, but are not mentioned on the website. The stumbling blocks in Na Václavce 1799/15 must have been laid in 2008 or 2009, as they were photographically documented on February 27, 2010.
