Smíchov (German Smichow ) is a district of Prague and belongs to one of the largest administrative districts of the Czech capital, the urban district Praha 5 . Smíchov is located south of the Malá Strana ( Lesser Town ) district on the western bank of the Vltava . In 1922 the city of Smíchov was incorporated into Prague.
overview
The original village of Smíchov, then a workers' and industrial district with textile factories, breweries, the Moritz Resek porcelain and doll factory and a railway wagon and tram factory , became an office and shopping center after the political change. The area of the Staropramen brewery remains as a contemporary witness . The center and traffic junction is the Anděl (Engel) office and shopping complex, which owes its name to a wall fresco on the facade of an old house that fell victim to the construction boom in the 1980s. The editorial offices of Dnes , Lidové noviny and the radio station Expres are located in the Anděl Media Center .
traffic
In long-distance traffic there is a connection via the long-distance and regional train station Praha-Smíchov (on the railway line Praha-Smíchov-Hostivice ) and a smaller bus station. There is a direct connection to both local public transport via metro line B and the tram.
