Anton David (politician)

Anton David (born April 23, 1849 in Smichow (Smíchov) , Bohemia , † December 21, 1924 in Vienna ) was an Austrian politician of the Social Democratic Workers' Party of Austria (SDAP).

Life

After attending elementary school, Anton David learned the soap boiler trade . After he had finished his studies, he went to Vienna, where he became politically active for the first time. He also lived temporarily in Wiener Neustadt until he found a job at the Sankt Marx slaughterhouse in Vienna . He was a co-founder of the professional association of soap boilers and the union of chemical workers in Lower Austria , from which the association of workers in the chemical industry in Austria emerged .

In 1889 he went to Nikolsburg and tried to set up his own business, but had to close his business again in 1892. In 1893 he found a job as an accident insurance official in Vienna . In 1894, Franz Schuhmeier appointed him to the administration of the party organ “Volkstribüne”, the circulation of which multiplied over the next few years.

In 1902 he ran for the first time for the local council, but was defeated by his Christian- social opponent.

He was a member of the party leadership of the Social Democratic Labor Party of Lower Austria , from 1907 to 1918 a member of the Reichsrat , from 1918 to 1920 a member of the City Council of Vienna, from October 21, 1918 to February 16, 1919 a member of the Provisional National Assembly and between March 4 and 1919 May 31, 1919 Member of the Constituent National Assembly of German Austria , where he was senior president .

Anton David, Franz Schuhmeier and Albert Sever jointly developed the still existing system of party organization with confidants.

Anton David was married and had ten children. After a brief illness, he died shortly after midnight on December 21, 1924.

In memory of Anton David, the community building at Effingergasse 31 , built between 1926 and 1927 according to plans by Alfred Keller and Walter Broßmann, was named Davidhof . He was buried in an honorary grave in the Ottakringer Friedhof (group 6, row M, number 2), the right to use the grave is for the duration of the cemetery.
