Kirk Alan McLean (born June 26, 1966 in Willowdale , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who played for the New Jersey Devils , Vancouver Canucks , Carolina Hurricanes , Florida Panthers and New York Rangers in the National Hockey League from 1985 to 2001 .

Career

As a junior he played with the Oshawa Generals in the Ontario Hockey League . The New Jersey Devils selected him in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft in the sixth round as 107th.

In the 1985/86 season he made his debut in the NHL, but the Devils were excellent in goal, so that he played mostly with the Maine Mariners in the American Hockey League and only played six games in the NHL in his first two seasons . One of those who tried with him for the place in the gate of the Devils was Karl Friesen .

Shortly before the start of the 1987/88 season, he moved to the Vancouver Canucks . The 35-year-old Richard Brodeur played there , who helped him as a regular goalkeeper in his first season. He was a regular goalkeeper for the Canucks for ten years. After a very good 1991/92 season , in which he was elected to the Second All-Star Team and narrowly missed winning the Vezina Trophy , he led his team in the 1993/94 season to the final series of the Stanley Cup , where you lost to the New York Rangers .

The 1997/98 season was very varied . At the beginning of January, he and Martin Gélinas were handed over to the Carolina Hurricanes for Sean Burke , Geoff Sanderson and Enrico Ciccone . In March he was sent to the Florida Panthers for Ray Sheppard . With the Panthers he also went into the following season. The 1999/2000 season he then played for the New York Rangers and was there two years back-up for Mike Richter .

Together with former players like Bill Ranford and Dave Lowry, he is one of the owners of the Burnaby Express youth team .
