Nadeschda Sergejewna Nadeschdina ( Russian: Наде́жда Серге́евна Наде́ждина , also other spellings of the name, born June 3, 1904 or 1908 in Vilnius , Russian Empire ; died October 11, 1979 in Moscow , Soviet Union ) was a Russian ballet dancer and choreographer.

Life

Nadeschda Nadeschdina was a daughter of the writer Aleksandra Brusztein and the doctor Israel Sergei Brusztein (1873-1947). Her grandfather Jakob Wygodski was a victim of the Holocaust in Vilnius in 1941 .

Nadeschdina received ballet training from Nikolai Legat and Agrippina Vaganova at the Petrograd Ballet School from 1918 to 1924 . Between 1925 and 1934 she had an engagement as a ballerina with the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow , where she worked as a ballet master from 1941 . In 1948 Nadeschdina founded the dance group Beryozka . Nadeschdina received the Stalin Prize in 1950 , the Joliot-Curie Gold Medal of the World Peace Council in 1959 , in 1966 she was appointed People's Artist of the USSR , and in 1978 a hero of socialist work .

Nadeschdina was married to Vladimir Lebedev in the 1930s . She is buried in the Novodevichy Cemetery .
