Birgte is a village in the town of Hörstel in the Tecklenburger Land region of the Steinfurt district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

location

Birgte is located on the southern side of the Teutoburg Forest on the Dortmund-Ems Canal . The highest point is the Birgter Berg , which belongs to the Teutoburg Forest.

history

In 1088 the farmers were first mentioned in a document and called "Birgithi". The first school was in Birgte from 1846. Since the end of the 19th century, the Dortmund-Ems Canal has separated the farmers from the slopes of the Teutoburg Forest. A new chapel was consecrated on July 5, 1906. The areas of the farmers are mainly used for agriculture and forestry. There are new residential areas in Birgte, and a commercial area extends to the location of Riesenbeck . Birgte was a district of Riesenbeck in the Tecklenburg district until January 1, 1975 .
