Nowadays, pear honey is mainly used as a spread or for sweetening or as an ingredient in Lucerne gingerbread . But it often serves as a combination with Gschwellti (boiled potatoes) or Ziger . During World War II, pear honey milk was an alternative to milk coffee because of the shortage of coffee beans. Before sugar became widespread, pear honey was fed to bees as a sugar food in certain regions .
