Bishop Perry Tillis

Bishop Joe Perry Tillis (born July 29, 1919 in Elba , Alabama , † November 3, 2004 ) was an American blues musician . He played with well-known blues musicians such as Muddy Waters , John Lee Hooker and Blind Willie Johnson .

Joe Perry Tillis learned to play his first instrument, a ukulele , at the age of 14 . He worked for a regional transport service in the 1940s but was forced to quit in 1954 due to his blindness . In the late 1960s he joined a gospel choir in Samson , Alabama. Tillis died on November 3, 2004 at the age of 85.
