Michka Assayas

Michka Assayas (born November 2, 1958 in Paris ) is a French author and music journalist . In France he made a name for himself through his rock reviews and the Dictionnaire du rock published in 2000 . For his novel Exhibition , which was also published in German translation, he received the Prix ​​Découverte Figaro Magazine-Fouquet's in 2002 and the Prix ​​des Deux Magots in 2003 . The novel pays homage to rock and punk of the 1970s and 1980s.

Life

Michka Assayas is the son of the Italian-French screenwriter Raymond Assayas, aka Jacques Rémy . His mother is from Hungary. His older brother Olivier Assayas is a director and screenwriter.

After graduating from the École normal supérieure de Fontenay-Saint-Cloud , he has been writing for Rock & Folk since the early 1980s, focusing on post-punk groups such as Joy Division and New Order . He then wrote editorials for Liberation and for the first issue of Les Inrockuptibles magazine . His contributions have appeared in VSD , 7 à Paris , Actuel and Le Monde de la musique .

In 2000 he published the Dictionnaire du rock in 3 volumes with a total of 2,650 pages. At times he was editor of Bernard Lenoir's programs on France Inter . Long friends with the singer Bono from U2 , he was able to convince him to write a book about their mutual conversations in 2005.

Between 2008 and 2012 he performed every Sunday at 10 p.m. on France Musique through the program Subjectif 21 on the history of rock music.
