It is published by Les Éditions Indépendantes in Paris and had a circulation of 58,822 in 2011. In addition to culture, the magazine also deals with political and social issues and can politically be assigned to the left spectrum.

The name is a neologism on the word Les Incorruptibles (Eng. The incorruptible ), which contains the word rock .

history

At the beginning of the 1980s Christian Fevret produced rock music programs on the Free Radio CVS Versailles, one of the programs was already called "Les Inrockuptibles". Since, in his opinion, the music magazines at that time did not give the newer groups enough space and CVS stopped the radio broadcast, the plan arose with Arnaud Deverre to publish a fanzine under the same name. The first issue in 1986 had Chris Isaak on the cover. The magazine initially appeared quarterly and specialized in rock music. It consisted entirely of interviews and black and white pictures, the style was very sober for a music magazine. A year later they make the very last interview with The Smiths in which singer Morrissey has announced the dissolution of the group. Increasingly, Les Inrockuptibles opened up to other cultural subjects, especially cinema and literature. The front page with the film director Leos Carax in 1991 represented a turning point . Since 1995 the magazine has appeared weekly and at the same time expanded its spectrum to include social and political topics. With Michel Rocard , a politician was on the cover for the first time this year.
