Detlef Kuhlmann

Detlef Kuhlmann (born October 8, 1954 in Bielefeld ) is a German sports educator and professor at the Leibniz University of Hanover .

Life

From 1974 to 1979 Kuhlmann studied linguistics, German, sport and educational science at Bielefeld University and graduated with the 1st state examination. From 1980 to 1988 he was a research assistant at the sports science department at Bielefeld University. In 1983 he received his doctorate with a thesis on the language of sports teachers. From 1988 to 1992 Detlef Kuhlmann was a scientific consultant and deputy head of the Willi Weyer Academy, Management and Administration Academy (FVA) Berlin of the German Sports Association . From 1992 to 2000 he was an academic senior counselor at the Institute for Sports Science at the Free University of Berlin . From 2000 to 2006 he held substitute professorships for sports education at the universities in Regensburg and Hanover. Since March 1, 2006, he has been a full university professor at the Institute for Sports Science at Leibniz Universität Hannover . Kuhlmann was Managing Director of the Institute for Sports Science from 2006 to 2008 and from 2010 to 2011. He was the development officer for the competence group “Fan cultures and sport-related social work” (KoFaS) at the Institute for Sport Science (2011–2015). Since 2008, he has been responsible for the scientific support of the project database "www.sport-integriert-niedersachsen.de" at the Landessportbund Niedersachsen.

Detlef Kuhlmann was active in sports, including handball, and still does endurance sports as a long-distance runner (including finishing the Berlin Marathon 30 times). He is involved on a voluntary basis in several sports organizations, including as a member of the research association “Educational Potentials of Child and Youth Work in Sport” at the German Sports Youth, as spokesman for the “Handball at Universities” working group in the German Handball Federation and, since April 2014, as chairman of the Sports Science Faculty Conference at universities and colleges of education in Germany. Since 2016 he has been a member of the board (since 2018 2nd chairman) of the Lower Saxony Institute for Sports History . Since 1990 he has been organizing the literature marathon in Berlin as part of the Berlin Marathon as an honorary department head for culture at SCC Events GmbH.

His main areas of work and research are pedagogical questions of sport, especially school sport and sport in clubs and associations, as well as sport development including sport science. Since 2018 he has been the 2nd chairman of the Lower Saxony Institute for Sports History .

Awards

Hermann Altrock scholarship from the German Sports Association (1981), PhD award from the Westfälisch-Lippische Universitätsgesellschaft (1983) and honorable recognition at the Carl Diem Competition of the German Sports Association (1983/84). Honorary gift from the German Sports Youth (2014).
