History and description
The Bismarck Monument was completed in 1906. It stands in the middle of Ludwigsplatz . The memorial comes from the sculptor Ludwig Habich and the architect Friedrich Pützer .
The statue is made from Franconian shell limestone . In the four-pass-shaped, low water basin on a round base stands a higher water basin, which is emphasized by four pillars with bronze reliefs . Under the reliefs there are four small bronze gargoyles designed as animal heads . On the more than 5 meter high stone pillar with the gargoyles at the side stands the 3.50 meter high figure of Otto von Bismarck . To ensure the stability of a stone block is oak leaves - decor at the foot between the mantle and the feet.
Others
The Bismarck monument replaced the Hassia fountain on Ludwigsplatz . The Hassia Fountain was moved to Taunusplatz in 1906 and destroyed in an air raid in 1944.
