description

The Bismarck Tower in Wettin is a lookout tower that was built in honor of Otto von Bismarck . The planning of the tower began in 1899. In the first drafts, two fire bowls were planned, which were painted again due to the fire hazard for the surrounding trees. Construction of the tower began in 1904 and was completed in 1905. He stands on the big Swissling. It was built from porphyry stones and its appearance is very similar to northern German city gates , especially those of Stendal . Overall, the tower is 21 meters (according to other information 21.5 meters) high.

When the tower was renamed and rededicated after the Second World War in 1950 as a peace tower, the references to Bismarck on the tower disappeared. These were not reattached until 1992. Among them is a plaque with the inscription We Germans fear nothing else in the world .

The tower is open to the public and has also been home to an arch museum since 2015.
