from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bismarck Tower at the Panoramahöhe (437 m) near Berggießhübel is one of the numerous Bismarck Tower towers that were erected throughout Germany and in dependent areas from the end of the 19th century in memory of Chancellor Otto von Bismarck .

history

With the beginning of the spa and bathing operations in Berggießhübel in the 18th century, the respective owners of the bathing facilities tried to make the place attractive for the spa guests by creating excursion destinations and the creation of hiking trails. In 1897, the secret councilor and manufacturer Carl Eschebach from Dresden acquired the spa and bathing facilities, which he subjected to a comprehensive renovation.

As part of these measures, he had a Bismarck tower built as a lookout tower from July 1899 on the nearby and at that time still largely unwooded panorama height. The 25 m high tower is based on the design by the Dresden architect Schramm and consists of granite boulders and sandstones . Its construction costs amounted to 35,000 marks . The Berggießhübeler Bismarck Tower was inaugurated on September 9, 1900. It quickly developed into a popular excursion destination, not least because a mountain restaurant opened right next to the tower. The tower had four braziers in which, on certain days, a fire was lit in honor of Bismarck. The firing was initially with wood and from 1907 with Bengal fires .

The Bismarck relief attached to the tower was removed in 1945 and reassembled in 1992. Due to dilapidation, the tower, which has been owned by the town of Berggießhübel since 1934, had to be closed to visitors in 1984. After renovation, it was reopened on May 5, 1990. Another extensive renovation took place in 1996/97. About 150,000 DM u. a. invested in stairs, windows and railings. In September 2000, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the opening, a great mountain singing with four choirs took place on the Panoramahöhe.

view

Because of its good all-round visibility, especially towards the north, the panorama height was already known as an intention before the construction of the Bismarck Tower. If the conditions are good, the view from the tower is enough
