from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bismarck Tower on Bonn's Venusberg was a monument to Otto von Bismarck .

history

The wooden observation tower , built in 1893/94, stood on the edge of the parade ground on the Venusberg. From there, the visitors had a view of the Rhine Valley and towards the Westerwald . An invalid acted as tower guard . The builder was the councilor of Commerce Ernst Rolffs . Through his legacy, he made the city of Bonn responsible for the maintenance and repair of the tower. The influence of the weather made the tower dilapidated, so that the city administration decided in 1912 to demolish it. The erection of an iron tower, which the city administration was considering, did not take place.
