Diocese of the Gambia
The diocese of Gambia ( English Diocese of Gambia ) is one of the 16 dioceses of the Church of the Province of West Africa , the Anglican ecclesiastical province in West Africa .
The area of the diocese includes the states of Gambia (official language English ), Senegal (official language French ) and Cape Verde (official language Portuguese ). In Gambia and Senegal around ten percent profess Christianity , in Cape Verde it is 90 percent. The majority of them belong to the Roman Catholic Church .
The diocese was created under the name "Gambia and the Rio Pongas" in 1935, later the name was changed to "Gambia and Guinea". The Diocese of Guinea split off in 1985.
Bishops
Since 1990, Solomon Tilewa Johnson was the sixth bishop of the diocese. He was the first to come from Gambia.
