Rt Rev John Charles Sydney Daly (* 1901 ; † 1985 ) was an Anglican bishop in Africa and Asia .

Life

After graduating from Gresham's School in Holt and the University of Cambridge , Daly became a Deacon of the Church of England and was ordained a priest in 1923 . As the youngest bishop, he was sent to the newly created diocese of Gambia and the Rio Pongas in 1935 . During the Second World War Daly served as District Scout Commissioner, so in 1944 he headed the Gambian contingent at a jamboree in Katibougou in what was then French Sudan (now Mali ), which was organized for Francophone and Anglophone Boy Scouts .

In 1951 he was after the Diocese of Accra ( Ghana added) he conducted until 1955 when he to Diocese of Korea was sent. The mission was one with greater challenges for him, since after the Korean War (1950–1953) and the breakdown of most contacts with North Korea, the country had to overcome economic, political and social problems. He was inaugurated on January 17, 1956 at the Anglican Cathedral of St. Mary and St. Nicholas .

The Diocese of Korea was divided in 1965, when Paul Ch'on-Hwan Li (Paul Lee, the first Korean bishop of the Anglican Church in Korea ) became Bishop of the Diocese of Seoul . Daly became Bishop of the Diocese of Daejeon , which he held until 1968.

Daly was celebrating 50 years as a bishop. The "Bishop John Daly Mission Center" in Gumi ( South Korea ) was named after him.
