James Allen Yaw Odico (born April 10, 1952 in Bathurst ) is a Gambian Anglican Bishop of Gambia.

Life

Education and career

James Odico, born on April 10, 1952 in Bathurst (now Banjul), Gambia, was baptized on May 11, 1952 and received Confirmation on November 10, 1968 . He attended St. Joseph's Primary School and later St. Augustine's Junior and Secondary Schools. After graduating from high school, he was employed in the Methodist bookstore as a salesman from 1961 to 1974. In September 1964, Bishop Jean Rigalle Elysée sent him to Immanuel College of Theology in Ibadan , Nigeria, for an academic year , where he received a certificate in Christian education and youth work. Upon his return, Odico worked for the diocese from 1975 to 1978. During this time, in 1975, he enrolled in a correspondence course in business English. After three years in the diocese, James Odico took up a job in banking and later worked at the Senegambia Beach Hotel as manager. In 1966 Odico enrolled in the Diocesan Evangelism School and received the Episcopal Certificate of Proficiency in 1997 and an Advanced Certificate in Biblical Studies in 1999. In 1998 he was admitted as a diocesan lay editor .

The canon entered the Anglican office as a deacon on November 28, 1999 and was ordained a priest on January 6, 2002 . For the next 16 years he served the diocese in various positions as pastor, dean of the cathedral and currently as vicar general, succeeding the CPWA primate and first Gambian bishop Solomon Tilewa EW Johnson , who died on January 21, 2014.

Bishop of Gambia

The Dean of St. Mary's Cathedral was ordained and enthroned as Bishop of the Diocese of Gambia on Sunday January 24th, 2016 by Daniel Yinka Sarfo , Primate and Metropolitan of the Church of the Province of West African (CPWA) . Previously, he was elected bishop in a secret four-round election at a special synod of the Gambia diocese, which took place on November 20, 2016 in the Christ Church in Serrekunda.

From August 2018 he was a member of the state commission of inquiry Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission , which should investigate the incidents during the tenure of President Yahya Jammeh .

He is married to Marian Georgiana Efuah Odico and the couple have four children.
