The Hongdong Diocese ( Latin : Dioecesis Homtomensis ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in Hongdong in the People's Republic of China .
history
Pope Pius XI founded the Apostolic Prefecture Hungtung on June 17, 1932 out of territory of the Apostolic Vicariate Lu An . It was elevated to a diocese on April 18, 1950.
Francis Han Ting-pi, who never wanted to be recognized by the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association , appointed an auxiliary bishop , Joseph Sun Yuanmou , in early 1991 . He is believed to be the successor to Bishop Ting-pis, who died in December of the same year.
