Bitė Lietuva is one of the largest telecommunications companies in Lithuania . It has been owned by the US investment company Providence Equity Partners in Latvia since February 2016, together with its sister company SIA Bitė Latvija . BITĖ Lietuva is based in Vilnius , in the Naujamiestis district .

history

BITĖ GSM was founded in 1995 and was the second mobile operator after Omnitel . In 1997, BITĖ GSM was the first telecommunications company in Eastern Europe to offer a prepaid service called Labas . On October 9, 2003, BITĖ GSM was one of the few telecommunications companies in Europe to offer EDGE . In 2004, BITĖ Lietuva had 500,000 customers. The company has been called BITĖ Lietuva since 2005 , after the sister company was also founded. The company logo was changed on February 11, 2008. In 2011 the company achieved sales of 450 million litas (140 million euros ). In May 2014 it employed 570 people and at the end of the year it had 1.025 million customers.
