Bitly ( spelling bitly ), also called bit .ly , is one of the most widely used short URL services . Managing Director of the New York company bitly, Inc . is Peter Stern.
Services
Bitly allows you to shorten long URLs . Statistics on the shortened URL, for example the number of times the link was viewed, are also available. Users can create a bitly-based short URL service via their own domain. Since a major update 29 May 2012 in which a new design was implemented, the service can also have an iOS - App can be used. The following URLs are used to shorten Facebook links:
- fb .me (for pages and profiles)
- on.fb.me (for articles, images, applications, etc.)
With the exception of your own domain and the Facebook short URLs, which forward on Facebook, all are redirected to the start page bitly.com. The domain j.mp received special attention in March 2011 when the then managing director John Borthwick publicly announced it as an alternative for a possible failure of the top-level domain .ly during the civil war in Libya .
