.ly

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

.ly is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Libya . This top-level domain was introduced on April 23, 1997 . It is technically managed by the General Post and Telecommunication Company Al Zawia in Tripoli and on six other servers in the country.

properties

A domain below .ly can be between three and 63 characters long. Internationalized domain names are not yet supported. The registration of a .ly domain is open to any natural or legal person ; there are no particular restrictions on the assignment. However, domains related to pornography were deleted several times in the past without warning.

In 2011, the civil war in Libya created uncertainty about the accessibility of .ly domains. Although three of the five authoritative name servers in the top-level domain are located abroad, they receive their data from the Libyan name servers at regular intervals . The short URL service Bitly was therefore even forced to set up an alternative operation under the domain j.mp in March 2011 if `` bit.ly '' should not be accessible. There was no major failure in the accessibility of .ly domains during the civil war.

meaning

Compared to other country-specific top-level domains, .ly domains continuously achieve high prices on trading platforms such as Sedo . The reason for this is the formation of adjectives in the English language , which leads to domains like love.ly , for example . The sale of rep.ly also attracted increased attention to the top-level domain.
