.af is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Afghanistan . It was on 16th October 1997 introduction and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology ( Ministry of Communications and IT ) in Kabul managed. This in turn passed the address on to the so-called Afghanistan Network Information Center (AfNIC for short).

history

The ending .af was initially administered by a private person from Kabul . Due to the Afghan civil war and the fact that the IANA had lost contact with this person in the course of the war, the registration of new addresses was initially suspended. In September 2002 the Afghan interim government was able to present new papers for the administration of the top-level domain, whereupon .af was handed over to the relevant ministry. In 2006 it was announced that AfNIC was one of the supporters of the top-level domain .asia .

properties

In total, an .af domain can be between two and 63 characters long and contain only alphanumeric characters , as internationalized domain names are not yet supported. The assignment is completely automated - even in the case of a transfer - and usually only takes a few hours. Both second and third level domains can be registered under .af , whereby the latter are reserved for persons and companies with residence or branch in the country. On the second level, numerous specialized domains are available, such as .com.af for companies, .net.af for Internet providers or .edu.af for educational institutions .
