.rs

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

.rs is the country-specific top-level domain (ccTLD) for Serbia . It was introduced on September 24, 2007 and assigned to the Serbian National Register of Internet Domain Names ( RNIDS for short ).

history

The introduction of .rs began on March 10, 2008 at 12 noon, preceded by the discontinuation of .yu in the former Federal Republic of Yugoslavia .

In February 2013, the top-level domain became the target of a distributed denial of service attack after similar attacks were previously observed on .be and .ch . According to the registry, the primary DNS servers were flooded with an unusually high number of requests.

properties

In total, an .rs domain can be between two and 63 characters long. Until August 1, 2012, only alphanumeric characters were allowed , since then Cyrillic has also been supported. The Cyrillic variant of the ccTLD itself is .срб . Since a place of residence or a branch in the country is necessary, foreigners can only register an .rs domain with the help of a trustee . However, the RNIDS also asks for the identity card number of private individuals or the sales tax identification number of companies .
