Only Andorran citizens and businesses are eligible to register an .ad address. Registrations are usually made on the second level, a maximum of three addresses can be registered. Each registration is checked individually by the Andorran government. An .ad domain can be between two and 63 characters long; the use of special characters is not supported.

Others

In the course of the introduction of new top-level domains , the Internet company Google Inc. wanted to register the .and domain for Andorra. Since the abbreviation is an ISO-3166-1 code , the application was withdrawn in September 2012. Thus, .and will not be introduced as an alternative to .ad in the foreseeable future .
