.in the

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

.im is the country code top-level domain ( ccTLD ) for the UK Isle of Man . It has existed since September 11, 1996 and is administered directly by the Isle of Man government.

In total, an .im domain can be between 1 and 64 characters long; the use of special characters as internationalized domain names is not supported. The connection is fully automated and takes a few hours. Initially, domains could only be registered on the third level, since 2006 it has been possible to use .im itself. The existing second-level domains such as .co.im or .ltd.im were continued and still exist today.

There are no particular restrictions on the award. Any natural or legal person may register a domain, a residence or branch on the Isle of Man is not necessary. Registrants only have to observe a black list on which prohibited terms are listed that may not be included in a domain.

Since IM is an abbreviation for instant messaging , .im domains are often used in this context as well.
