.tr is the country-specific top-level domain (ccTLD) for the state of Turkey , but is also used by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus . It was introduced by ICANN on September 17, 1990 and has since been administered by the Department of Computer Science at the Middle East Technical University .

properties

To order a .tr domain, it is not necessary to have a place of residence or a branch in Turkey. Compared to many other ccTLDs, addresses are not assigned on the second, but only on the third level. Interested parties can choose from , for example, .com.tr , .info.tr and .biz.tr . The former is only approved for companies and must correspond to the company name or a registered trademark , which must be proven by appropriate documents. Both .info.tr and .biz.tr are also open to private individuals without special requirements .

A .tr domain can be between three and 63 characters long. The connection with a European domain registrar takes between three and 10 days. It is unusual that trading with .tr domains is not easily possible because the registry does not support the change of owner. Furthermore, .tr addresses cannot yet be converted into internationalized domain names with special characters .
