.pk is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Pakistan . It was introduced on June 3, 1992 and is administered by the PKNIC ( Pakistan Network Information Center ) organization.
After the introduction, domains could initially only be registered below 13 second-level domains , of which only six were available to the general public. It was not until 2005 that the option of registering domains directly under .pk was introduced. The change was preceded by a so-called sunrise period during which owners of a trademark registered before January 2005 could secure their domains. Generic terms from the English language were not permitted.
Others
The registry PKNIC is a US company that initially neither had a branch in Pakistan nor placed name servers in the country. It was not until 2009 that PKNIC opened an office in Lahore on the instructions of the national telecommunications authority . According to experts, this should ensure Pakistan's influence on the top-level domain. In contrast to other top-level domains of Islamic countries, .pk is not subject to any special restrictions, so domains such as casino.pk or dating.pk are also allowed.
