.la

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

.la is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Laos . It was introduced on May 14, 1996 and is administered by the Lao National Internet Committee within the Department of Post and Telecommunications. Previously, the administration was in the hands of the London company CentralNIC , which mainly marketed the top-level domain as an abbreviation for Los Angeles . In 2011, however, the ministry requested that .la be used again for Laos itself.

Domains are only registered on the second level and can be between two and 63 characters long. Any natural or legal person is allowed to register a .la domain, a place of residence or a branch in Laos is not required. Nevertheless, the ending hardly plays a role in an international comparison and is hardly traded on platforms such as Sedo . The most expensive transaction ever known was for business.la , which was sold for $ 17,500 in 2008 .
