.rw

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

.rw is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Rwanda . It has existed since October 21, 1996 and is administered by the Rwanda Information Communication and Technology Association (RICTA).

history

The top-level domain was initially administered by NIC Congo Interpoint , based in Kinshasa , which had given addresses partly free of charge. The company was repeatedly criticized, for example because of slow processing of newly registered domains . Therefore, since the introduction of .rw, the non-profit RICTA endeavored to manage it, which was finally granted to it by ICANN in September 2012.

In May 2013, the RICTA announced new terms for .rw domains, which included a price reduction and the introduction of third-level domains ; .co.rw , .net.rw and .org.rw have been set up. Since then, the decisive factor for the fees for .rw domains is whether the owner is domiciled in Germany or abroad. In the latter case, registration is up to five times more expensive. In July 2013 , the state's government also launched an initiative aimed at promoting the sale of .rw domains by making locally based companies increasingly present themselves with .rw domains. At this point in time 1,800 .rw domains were registered.
