.gw is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Guinea-Bissau . It has existed since February 4th 1997 and has been operated by DNS.pt since November 2014 .

history

Initially, .gw could only be used by private individuals and companies based in Guinea-Bissau. It was not until August 2007 that the registry announced that it wanted to make the top-level domain available worldwide without restriction. In the course of the opening, .gw was temporarily marketed as an abbreviation for global web .

Since DNS.pt became the operator of the top-level domain in November 2014, only companies can purchase a domain. A sales tax identification number is also required for registration . Registration is possible for two years and costs 45.73 euros (30,000 XOF ).
