properties

The requirements used to be very strict, so only Bhutanese citizens and companies were allowed to register a .bt address on the third level. These restrictions have now been relaxed so that registrations on a second level are also possible and foreigners are also allowed to register .bt addresses. In addition to accredited registrars , the Bhutan Network Information Center itself also issues new domains through its subsidiary DrukNet.

In addition to .bt, there are the following second-level domains :

  • .com.bt for commercial companies
  • .edu.bt for educational institutions
  • .gov.bt for the government of Bhutan
  • .net.bt for internet service providers
  • .org.bt for non-profit organizations

Due to the liberal award criteria, .bt is one of the most risky top-level domains after .mt . The proportion of sites affected by phishing was 0.7 percent in September 2013.
