properties

Any natural or legal person can register a .cr domain. However, the official award criteria stipulate that private individuals must provide evidence of the date and place of birth as well as the number of their ID to the registration authority. Companies must provide at least their VAT number; in some cases an extract from the commercial register may be required.

At first, .cr domains could only be registered under special second-level domains . In March 2008 this restriction was lifted so that .cr can now be used directly. Existing address ranges were retained and continue to exist in parallel to the top-level domain, including:

  • .ac.cr for academic institutions
  • .co.cr for commercial companies
  • .ed.cr for educational institutions
  • .fi.cr for registered credit institutions
  • .go.cr for the government of Costa Rica
  • .or.cr for non-profit organizations
  • .sa.cr for hospitals
