.al is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Albania . It has existed since April 21, 1992 and is administered by the State Telecommunications Authority ( Electronic and Postal Communications Authority , AKEP for short). Until May 1, 2013, only Albanian citizens and businesses were allowed to register an .al address. This restriction has now been removed so that .al domains can be freely registered for everyone. Only alphanumeric characters may be used; a domain must also be between two and 63 characters long. At the end of 2011, around 8,000 domain addresses were registered.
