Top-level domain .dd
category country-specific

.dd was the country-specific top-level domain (ccTLD) for the German Democratic Republic .

Since the GDR existed at the time of the introduction of the top-level domains, the top-level domain .dd was intended for them - analogous to the West German .de . However, this TLD was only used internally in an isolated network of the universities of Jena , Dresden and probably Rostock - the GDR was never accessible from outside via a .dd address. The reason for this was that .dd was never delegated in the public domain name system . After the reunification of Germany , the top-level domain .dd was obsolete and the plans to introduce .dd were no longer pursued.

According to a media report from 2011, the city of Dresden checked to apply for the ending .dd in the course of the allocation of new generic top-level domains with ICANN , as it has the license plate DD . After the introduction of the rule that new gTLDs must be at least three characters long, this was discontinued.
