.cx is the country-specific top-level domain (ccTLD) for Christmas Island . Although it belongs politically to Australia , it has its own abbreviation according to ISO 3166 and therefore its own top-level domain.

history

The extension has existed since April 24, 1997 and is administered by the Christmas Island Internet Administration . Addresses are only registered on the second level. There are no further restrictions so that any natural or legal person can register a .cx address. Compared to other top-level domains, .cx has achieved limited recognition, as the Goatse image, for example, was originally published under this domain. Regardless of the liberal award criteria, the top-level domain hardly plays a role internationally; the most expensive .cx domain ever sold was lasvegas.cx .
