The ending can only be used on the third level. This means that abc.bd cannot be registered, as is the case with the majority of all ccTLDs. Instead, a total of seven second-level domains are available, for example .com.bd , .net.bd and .org.bd . The use of .mil.bd and .gov.bd is reserved for the authorities of the country. In 2010 , the registry formally applied to ICANN for the introduction of the internationalized variant of .bd, .বাংলা . Bangladesh was the fifth state to receive the internationalized domain name supported.

As the registry confirmed in 2014, .bd is one of the most insecure domain extensions in the world. The software used for domain administration had never been updated and an easy target for hackers for IPv6 would .bd not prepared.
