.pe

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

.pe is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Peru . It was introduced on November 25, 1991 and is administratively and technically administered by the Red Cientifica Peruana with headquarters in Lima .

properties

In total, a .pe domain can be between three and 63 characters long and contain only alphanumeric characters . Although the registry officially supports numerous special characters from Spanish , this function cannot be used by practically any domain registrar . Any natural or legal person can order a .pe domain ; a place of residence or a branch in the country is not necessary. Registration is fully automated and usually takes between two and four days. In addition to the top-level domain .pe, addresses can also be ordered under .com.pe (for companies) and other subdomains.

meaning

Until 2007, only such third-level domains could be registered, and it was only in November of that year that the registry relaxed the strict criteria. Since then it has been possible (as with most other ccTLDs) to change the owner of a .pe domain or to use certain previously blocked terms. At the time of liberalization, there were only around 17,000 domains below .pe, which is why the top-level domain is rather insignificant in an international comparison. The domain is partly misappropriated for corporations, since the abbreviation PE stands for private equity .

The most expensive .pe domain ever sold was casino.pe . It changed hands in 2011 for an amount of $ 8,000 .
