.eg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

.eg is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Egypt in the Latin alphabet . It was introduced on November 30, 1990 and is administered by the Egyptian Universities Network . The Arabic variant of the address is.مصر( .miṣr ).

properties

Every person who wants to register a .eg domain must have a place of residence or a branch office , alternatively a third person can be registered as a local representative. In addition, the registry stipulates that .eg domains must be hosted on Egyptian name servers .

meaning

The top-level domain was one of the first addresses for which an internationalized counterpart was introduced in May 2010 . Therefore, the domain is given an above-average importance, especially in the Arab world.

.Eg achieved negative publicity in 2011 when the primary name server was unavailable for several weeks. Therefore .eg domains could only be resolved via the secondary server, which contained an outdated database, so that some websites could not be reached. The technical problems of the registry even prompted ICANN to comment.
