Browningia viridis is a species of the genus Browningia in the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Browningia viridis grows tree-shaped with candelabra-like branching shoots and reaches heights of up to 10 meters. A distinct trunk is formed. The green shoots have a diameter of up to 8 centimeters. There are 18 or more ribs , thickened around the areoles and sometimes dissolved into humps . The 10 to 20 yellow thorns are darker at the top and up to 7 inches long.

The white flowers reach a diameter of up to 5 centimeters.

Distribution and systematics

Browningia viridis is common in the Peruvian regions of Ayacucho and Apurímac in the valley of the Río Apurímac . It was first described as Azureocereus viridis in 1956 by Werner Rauh and Curt Backeberg . Franz Buxbaum placed them in the genus Browningia in 1965 .
