.pw
.pw is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the state of Palau . It was introduced on June 12, 1997. The company EnCirca Inc. from Massachusetts , United States , was initially responsible for the technical administration ; this task is now performed by the Micronesia Investment and Development Corporation , based in Koror , Palau. Restart
In October 2012 it became known that Directi was planning a major change in the award criteria. These were assessed as a kind of restart of the domain, in the course of which the ending was to be promoted as a synonym for professional web ( English ). The registry is thus following the strategy of .ws and .tv , which, in addition to their country-specific significance, are used as an abbreviation for website and television .
Since December 3, 2012, any natural or legal person can register a .pw domain. A place of residence or a branch in the country is not required. The so-called sunrise period , during which registered trademark owners can secure their rights to domains, was initially supposed to end on February 8th, but was eventually extended to February 15th. The general introduction of the .pw domain under the new award criteria - the so-called landrush phase - should begin on March 18, 2013.
.Pw actually started under the new conditions on March 25 of the same year. A total of 50,000 domains were registered within the first three weeks after the top-level domain was released worldwide. In August 2013, the registry also implemented the new URS ( Uniform Rapid Suspension ) arbitration procedure from ICANN as the first top-level domain for .pw , which is intended to bring about a quick decision on conflicts.
