.pr is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the area Puerto Rico . It has existed since August 27, 1989 and is administered by Gauss Research Laboratory Inc. , headquartered in San Juan .

There are numerous second-level domains below .pr, such as .info.pr or .name.pr , some of which can be registered by any natural or legal person without restrictions. A residency or branch office in Puerto Rico is not required. .Pr has supported the use of Spanish , Portuguese , German and French special characters since 2009 .

Others

In 2011, the University of Puerto Rico claimed the top-level domain because Gauss Research Laboratory illegally took over management. Ultimately, the university could not prevail with its assessment.
