Jakob Kranz (preacher)
Jakob Kranz (Hebrew) יעקב קרנץ (born around 1740 in Zietil ; died December 18, 1804 in Zamość ) was a popular Hebrew preacher ( Maggid ) and parable speaker of the 18th century.
Life
At the age of eighteen he went to Miedzyrzec Podlaski (Meseritz) as a preacher for two years . He then worked in Zolkiev, Dubno , Włodawa (Lublin), Kalisch and Zamość. He stayed in Dubno in Volhynia for 18 years. He left the place to go to Vilna . Jakob Kranz illustrated his sermons and homiletic commentaries with parables from human life, explaining difficult passages and confusing questions in rabbinical law.
