history

The city was founded as a settlement in 1945 under the name Arzni Banawan and received the status of an urban-type settlement in 1974 , as well as the current city name. The city status was confirmed in 1994. Between 1988 and 1992, the city accepted Armenian refugees from Azerbaijan .
