At the Blondulón dam |
When Blöndulón ( "Blanda Lake") is a reservoir on the Kjalvegur in the Icelandic highlands .
geography
It is located about 25 km north of Hveravellir . Its depth is up to 39 m and it has an area of 56 to 57 km².
In order to create the lake, the river Blanda was dammed at Reftjarnarbungu , about halfway between the source and its mouth. Another dam was built at the sources of the Kolkukvíslar and the water from there is fed into the reservoir via a 25 km long supply line that also takes in other tributaries.
The Blanda power plant ( isl. Blöndustöð ), which went into operation in 1991, is located at a depth of 200 m in an artificial cave and is only accessible via a lift and an 800 m long passable tunnel.
The lake is good for salmon fishing .
