Black's Beach is a three-kilometer-long beach in La Jolla, California on the Pacific coast , below the approximately 90 meter high cliff.

location

The beach is one of the largest in the United States and is located north of downtown La Jolla and south of Torrey Pines State Park and about 4.5 kilometers north of La Jolla Shores Beach . Parts of the beach are in State Park and part in the urban area of San Diego . It got its name because the land used to belong to the Black family, who own a farm up on the cliff.

reachability

Most of the beach can be reached via very long and mostly smaller paths via La Jolla, Torrey Pines State Park or via the beaten track on the slopes at Torrey Pines Gliderport , the airfield for paragliders on the cliff and from the Salk Institute for Biological Studies .

Trivia

A voluntary group called The Black's Beach Bares cares besides the security and the cleanliness of the beach. They also organize events and picnics during the summer and are part of The Naturist Society , a naturism association.

Black's Beach is known among surfers as one of the most powerful breakwater beaches in Southern California . The waves reach their height due to the special geological structures on the sea floor. Upstream there is an undersea canyon that guides the waves like a funnel onto the beach.

Black's Beach is one of the biggest attractions of La Jolla , along with many other beaches ( La Jolla Shores , La Jolla Cove ). It's also known for being the only beach in the state of California that is nudist- friendly.
