Black's Land

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Black's Land , also known as Jones' Land , is a residential building on Main Street in the Scottish town of Inveraray . The house is located at the south end of the historic town center of Inveraray and south of the Arkland building line . The city center ends with the neighboring house to the south, Mackenzie's Land . Black's Land is located directly on the A83 , which connects the south of the region to the Kintyre Peninsula with the Central Belt . In 1966 Black's Land was listed in the Scottish Monuments List in the highest category A. Jones, after whom the building is alternatively named, was the son-in-law of the Mackenzies who owned the neighboring house. Once upon a time, Halley's Inn was in Black's Land.

description

Historic Scotland give the late 18th century when the house was built. Since large parts of the planned town of Inveraray, including the two neighboring buildings, were built in the 1770s, it is reasonable to assume that Black's Land was also built in this decade. Black's Land is built in the traditional style. The entrance door and five lattice windows are let into the front of the two-story building. The house ends with a slate-covered gable roof . Two dormers with hipped roofs protrude from the street. These do not correspond to the original condition and were added later. All facades are plastered using the traditional Harling technique.
