Black Boy Island is an island in the Thames in England between the towns of Medmenham in Buckinghamshire and Hurley in Berkshire . The island is upriver from Hurley Lock and is part of Berkshire.
The island is said to be named after Charles II , who was so dark as a child that his mother called him Black Boy . Black Boy Island and the adjacent Frog Mill Ait were a problem for shipping as the towpath ran across the island as viewed from the main shipping channel and the ropes had to be pulled across the island, resulting in boats being pulled ashore.
The name Poisson Deux is associated with the area and is believed to come from the fish traps that were attached to the river here.
